We're investing in our water network in Thorne

Washing apples

Thorne

We’ve started a project investing £2 million to replace around 2.9km of clean water pipes in Thorne.  Our water network in Thorne has had 36 bursts over the last 3 years, this work will reduce the risk of the bursts, maintain water quality and most importantly keeping customers pipes flowing.

Our contract partners United Living and Geraghty’s are carrying out this work on our behalf. Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am until 5pm, we expect to be completed by mid-November 2024.

Due to the nature of the water network, we must complete the work around town in a certain way and sequence to make sure the pipes are properly cleaned and chlorinated before we can switch flows between pipes. This sometimes means there are times when no one is working, this is while pipes are tested, and results are confirmed.

We know roadworks are inconvenient and we’re working closely with Doncaster Council on our traffic management plan to look at ways to minimise disruption.  We really appreciate everyone’s patience and support while we complete these essential works.

These are the streets where we’ll be working are:

  • Plantation Road-Complete!
  • Fair Tree Walk-Complete!
  • Orchard Street-Complete!
  • The Green- Complete!
  • Finkle Street-Complete!
  • Horse Fair Green- starting Monday 24th June
  • Godfrey Road-Complete!
  • Bellwood Crescent-complete!
  • Lock Lane- ongoing until the end of June
  • Ellison Street
  • Fieldside- ongoing
  • Field Road-Complete!
  • King Street

Work is progressing well. Plantation Road, Fair Tree Walk, Orchard Street, The Green, Finkle Street and Brooke Street are now complete.

Horse Fair Green

From Monday 24th June we’ll begin to replace the pipe on Horse Fair Green, starting at the junction with South Parade.  This section will take around 4 weeks to complete. Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am until 5pm, and we’ll be working some weekends on this section too.

We’ll be starting by making a connection into the existing network on South Parade and will have temporary traffic lights in place for around 1 week while we do this, these will be manned 7am until 7pm, 7 days a week.

The work on Horse Fair Green itself will be split into 2 parts.  The first section from the junction of South Stage Parade to the entrance to the large carpark will take 1-2 weeks and throughout this section the road will be open as usual as a through route to Silver Street.

When we move onto the second section past the entrance to the carpark the road gets much narrower, so we’ll need to close it to keep everyone safe. This section will take around 2 weeks to complete. It will be closed from the carpark to the junction with Finkle Street and to maintain access to the large carpark the bottom section of Horse Fair Green will allow 2-way traffic.

Access for residents and the pharmacy car park will be maintained but we may need to ask you to wait while we move to let you pass, I’m sorry for any inconvenience.

Our work on Finkle Street is due to finish by 21st June and Lock Lane is on track to finish by the end of June.  We’re still working on Field Side is and making good progress.

Car parks for the town centre are open and accessible and all local businesses are open as usual, please continue to support them!
