The source of all of Engie’s renewable electricity is fully certified by UK Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) or EU Guarantees of Origin (GoOs). This means all the electricity we buy is fully traceable to specific renewable generators.
The electricity supplied to us by the national grid is more than 500 million kWh per year. This will result in savings of around 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide this year. The average UK household will emit under one tonne of CO2 as a result of their electricity usage. This is the equivalent of the entire population of Scarborough being powered purely by renewable energy!
This is also a major milestone in our journey towards achieving our Operational Carbon Performance Commitment and our 2030 Net Zero Public Interest. Sourcing our grid electricity from renewables is the cornerstone of our strategy. Our focus can then be on our remaining operational emissions such as our process emissions from water and wastewater treatment and our transport emissions.
