Huddersfield residents urged to be vigilant after bogus caller burglary

Yorkshire Water is urging customers in Huddersfield to look out for family, friends and neighbours who may be vulnerable to bogus callers.
The warning comes after a report of conmen gaining access to a home in the Edgerton area of Huddersfield by pretending to be Yorkshire Water workers.
Yorkshire Water’s Mel Tattersfield said: "Sadly, we’ve been made aware of a terrible incident where people gained access to a property in Huddersfield by claiming to be from Yorkshire Water or ‘the water board’.
“We would urge people remain vigilant and look out for people who may be vulnerable to these kinds of approaches to prevent opportunist thieves. All our staff wear a uniform and carry photo identity cards which they're happy to show to customers.
"If a caller claims to be from Yorkshire Water, put the chain on the door before opening it and ask to see their identity card and why they're visiting. Their identity can also be double checked by calling us before letting them in."
Yorkshire Water offers a free password scheme for people who want to add an extra layer of protection and peace of mind that callers are genuine.
Mel added: "Customers can also arrange for our employees to use a password - simply let us know your chosen password and we'll make sure all our employees use it when visiting a property or calling.”
To set up a password, customers can call 0800 1 38 78 78.
