Yorkshire Water invests £16m in latest Keighley water network improvements

A £16m improvement scheme at Yorkshire Water’s Sladen Valley water treatment works near Haworth has been completed.
Yorkshire Water’s partners Kier and Stantec designed and installed a world class Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX) plant.
The new process at Sladen Valley treatment works is the latest update in the water company’s multimillion pound investment in Keighley water supply.
The makeup of the catchment area for Keighley means that water comes from the hills and naturally flows through peatland and moorland before reaching reservoirs and treatment works.
The MIEX plant will remove some of the additional colour that peat brings to the water.
Neil Whitehead, asset planning sponsor at Yorkshire Water, said: “This is a fantastic upgrade to one of our key water treatment works and another significant investment in Keighley’s water network.
“The installation of the MIEX plant will help us to improve and maintain the high standard of drinking water that our customers are used to.”
Yorkshire Water recently requested an environmental impact assessment for potential upgrade works at Oldfield water treatment works, which is an additional investment option the water company is currently exploring.
