Yorkshire Water is recruiting 42 apprentices to fill a range of roles in support of its upcoming £8.3bn investment programme.
The available roles at the utility span mechanical engineering, instrumentation, control and automation engineering, process engineering, asset management and emergency preparation and resilience.
Ann Stanley, funded learning lead at Yorkshire Water, said: “We recently announced our plans to invest £8.3bn in our network and services over the next five years, doubling our investment for the previous five years. These new recruits will be joining us at a pivotal time and will help to implement a number of incredibly important projects across the business and across the region.”
Between 2025 and 2030, Yorkshire Water will undertake a £8.3bn programme of investment which includes:
- Further enhancing the delivery of secure, safe, clean water supplies with improved resilience of its network of pipes and a focus on future water resource needs
- Its largest ever environmental investment with a particular focus on protecting and improving river and coastal water quality, with £1.5bn earmarked for storm overflow projects
- Improvements to customer service and expansion of support programmes for those in need of financial or other kinds of help
The investment is expected to support 10,000 jobs at Yorkshire Water, its contract partners and supply chain.
Joe Jamieson, apprentice resource engineer, commented on his time so far at Yorkshire Water: “I left school during the pandemic and spent three years working in a warehouse, but I really wanted a job where I could spend time in the countryside. Most of the vacancies I saw were office-based, so when I heard that Yorkshire Water offered opportunities which involved working outside, I knew I had to apply.
“Now I’m learning valuable skills, receiving plenty of guidance and support, and working towards a role that will not only see me spending lots of time outdoors but helping to provide safe and clean drinking water to Yorkshire. It’s important that people explore what’s out there, and if you find something that appeals to your interests and skills - go for it!”
Apprentices would join the business in September 2025.
Applications for the roles open on Monday 10 February and close on Friday 7 March 2025. Anybody interested in applying or finding out more information can do so via:
